Skin & Bone

Egill Kalevi Karlsson

Skin & Bone is part of the graduation of the Design Academy Eindhoven 2004.

Egill Kalevi Karlsson has always been interested in finding new ways of making things and always found pumps fascinating strange objects.

The essence of the project is ‘heel-extrusion’, a sort of imaginary heel bone extruding from beneath the heel with the skin stretching over it. What I do is make the shape that sesults from the extrusion, the strong cup form, hard by using a method adopted from boat making. All materials uesed are textiles, some are left soft and some made hard, like a skeleton.

The skeleton structure is coverd with a soft, elastic skin (Lycra) that can be changed into different styles and washed when dirty.
