Izumi Hongo

She made a very nice shoe with a trompe l ‘oeil. The shoes, at first sight simple black pumps, have a surprising cut resembling the shape of the toes. Izumi was inspired by the portraits of women painted by Kees Van Dongen, Matisse and other expressionist painters.

Izumi:’Normally shoes are designed from the side. Therefore most attention is given to the side. When designing clothes I usually start with the front view. I have now done with this shoe. This makes this shoe much more interesting and innovative in the front’.

Winner of the Sacha Golden Heel Award 2010.
