[txt] => For over 10 years Angela Spieth and Michael Oehler have been making themselves familiar with everything in and around shoes. The shoemaker Michael Oehler experimented with the boundaries of traditional shoemaking, while at the same time producing customised shoes for the discerning individual and for film and theater. The designer Angela Spieth gathered her broad experience from the 4 corners of the world, working as freelance designer and advisor for many big-name shoe firms. This experience gave her the know-how to pursue her own innovative ideas.
In 1992 while pottering around an old lasts factory, the two discovered wooden soles from the Seventies.
This proved to be the inspiration that would start the adventure Trippen. The first Trippen collection was presented in a Berlin art gallery and consisted of 60 wearable and non-wearable wooden shoes. The collection was a success and the shoes were ordered by many well known designers for their catwalk shows. Since then Trippen has developed many commercial and experimental collections, such as the Closed, Cham, Cups, Sandals, Penna, Kids and Bag collections.
1995 Trippen opens the first showroom and shop in Berlin. 1996 Trippen is acclaimed with an award from the International Design Centre in Stuttgart. 1997 Trippen opens the first 2 shops in Tokyo. 1998 Trippen opens 2 more shops in Tokyo and shops in Taipei, Nagoya, Osaka and an own factory near Berlin. 1999 Trippen opens flagship stores in Kobe, Kyoto and London. 2000-2001 Trippen wins further 5 international design awards. 2002 Trippen opens 2 more shops in Berlin. 2003 Cooperation with Issey Miyake. 2004 The Trippen Penna collection is acclaimed with a GOOD DESIGN Award. 2005 the Penna collection has been nominated for the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The Virtual Shoe Museum was initiated by Liza Snook in 2004. Once the idea was born, a long search began for designers, photographers and publishers connected to shoes. New friendships developed and our mailbox filled with loads of material on fantastic shoes, art and design on shoes.
And finally, with the help of Taco Zwaanswijk of Interactive Affairs, who designed the site, and Bart van der Ploeg of Resolume, who programmed the database and created the content management system, we're live! And proud! And we're only just beginning...
If you have any questions about the collection, or leads on shoes or designers, please let us know. Also, we're interested in your opinion on the collection and your experiences in the museum. You can contact the Virtual Shoe Museum by mail: Liza@VirtualShoeMuseum.com.
The Virtual Shoe Museum has different 'perspectives' on a shoe or object. These perspectives (designer, focus, colour, material, etc) show related objects and thus ways to navigate the collection.
The left column of the screen contains the main navigation. Each perspective contains several 'rooms'. Each room contains thumbnails of the objects it contains (on the right side of the screen). Choose any to view this object.
On an object's page, below the image, you can view more images, video and text (if available). Above the thumbnails, you find a list showing all the rooms this object belongs to. Here you can wander the rooms and find related objects.

For over 10 years Angela Spieth and Michael Oehler have been making themselves familiar with everything in and around shoes.
