Mourning Cloak

Winde Rienstra

Collection Autumn/Winter 2013

Winde Rienstra presented her ‘Mourning Cloak’ collection during the Amsterdam Fashion Week 2013.

Inspired by the poem ‘Unconscious came a beauty’ by May Swenson (1913 – 1989) published in The New Yorker in 1968.
Next to this Winde found inspiration in the Day of the Dead (Spanish for Día de los Muertos) a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico and around the world in other cultures. The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. It is particularly celebrated in Mexico. Winde: ‘It’s an ode to the death’.

Part of this collection are these striking shoes. Giant heels, made of bamboo and tie-wraps.
